On Sunday/Monday, we experience a Libra Full Moon Lunar Eclipse. Eclipses come in pairs, and the more obviously impactful one could be the Aries Solar Eclipse on April 8 - both because of the length of time that the Sun is eclipsed, and the fact that it’s a total Solar eclipse (so a bit more potent). Then, the Sun will be totally eclipsed for a whole four and a half minutes which is one of the longest eclipse times in the 21st century, and it will have quite a wide path through the central and northeast states of North America.
As an astrologer, I’ve observed some basic things around Eclipse times:
First, there is a disturbance in the geomagnetic field of the Earth. Science validates this. Animals pick up on this, too; their behavior patterns change, and humans’ do as well. For us, sleeplessness, feeling fatigued/low energy, and feeling generally emotionally stirred-up are all common.
Lunar eclipses make us aware of, and offer healing release for, emotional patterns - since emotional habits are “of the Moon”. How do we release such deep patterns, and conditioning? We get triggered! We feel more! We are sensitive, so need more awareness, grounding and inwardness.
Solar eclipses have the character of the Sun, which rules the Ego and external life. Therefore, external recognizable events occur around solar eclipses: A job promotion or ending, a new birth or death, a realization of a change occurring. A solar eclipse brings shifts in our observable reality.
…This basic knowledge about eclipses can take you fairly far in recognizing why you feel and experience what you do when it’s “eclipse time”.
BUT, WAIT THERE’S MORE...Every eclipse is different. The Intuitive in me wants to speak to what I feel at this particular eclipse pattern (I have not looked at the astrology beyond knowing this is a Libra-Aries Eclipse).
If you are feeling extra deep rumbles, especially around unfairness, injustice and inequity – which are Libra themes- it is likely connected to a larger, collective, energetic clearing and healing occurring. Because…
I’m sensing that Ancestral healing is “UP,” -and gender role healing, too! There may be a tendency to feel victimized, too, and perhaps the most healing thing we can do for one another right now is to bare witness, and to listen.
Ancestral & Gender Role Healing
Here in Hawaii, I am noticing rumbling energies around the Native Hawaiian Movement and Settler-ism (fyi: everyone here who is not indigenous to the islands can be called a Settler). As inequities, disparities and old grievances surface, this is creating emotional tension and friction.
I am also noticing imbalances in gender roles. The domestic aspect of the feminine typically holds space for the masculine by making sure there is food on the table, the house is clean, and everyone is well. This is ANCIENT role patterning. So/but what happens when an extra element gets thrown into the mix- a houseguest, a stressor, an illness? How do we dynamically adjust (Libra)? When there’s more food consumed, more laundry, more mess? How many have I heard complain, lately, about partners leaving their stuff around the house - and guess who cleans it up? So what to do? Leave the trash where it currently sits? Stage a protest - let it stare at you, for days?
This is old stuff. The Divine Feminine wants acknowledgment, appreciation, to be seen. Look at all she does! Look at all she provides! Look at all that she silently holds for you! Look at all that she gives you!
I love holding feminine space. I deeply bow to all of the feminine. I love her domestic aspects. If it is my choice to offer this to you, it feels good. However, if I feel: An expectation on me, taken for granted, this shifts the balance.
How to Heal
What IS healing, anyhow? At this lunation: Listening. Baring Witness to Another’s Story. Being Heard. I remember when I first began writing astrology in the newspaper, and there was a Q&A column where readers would write their big life questions and I would have only 250 words to answer them. It felt impossible! You know what I learned? The healing is in being a present listener. The act of writing and sharing allows one’s energies and perceptions to shift -sometimes completely. So, if someone comes to you with what sounds like a gripe or complaint, simply listen. Chances are, there is some deep stuff coming up for them which you may not totally grasp.
Injustice & Your Divinity
I feel it’s vital to remember that all of us are traveling this vulnerable human journey. On this journey, it is easy to feel victimized. The literal definition of victim is a person who has been lied to, abused, treated unfairly. Let’s remember that no one is exempt from feeling victimized. No one! You may think you are the bigger victim, but I promise you that we are one another. Read that again: We are all one another. We have all been lied to, treated unfairly, abused in different ways- whether you (or they) realize it, or not.
We have ALL been victims. Yet we don’t have to take on that identity. We can choose to anchor into our Divinity- the aspect of who we truly are that is eternally free, peaceful, and BIG ENOUGH to accept that all of these things that we don’t like are, yes, part of life. When we remember who we truly are, we find ways through the tough stuff. We can meet any adversity with Grace.
These are themes I’m picking up on at the moment. You? How are you feeling?
Thank you for your insightful writing! I love your perspectives.
