It’s autumn, an Aries (post-eclipse) full moon, election season in the U.S., and everyone’s busier than God. This full moon’s cardinal energy asks you to wisely choose where to place your energies, as it features a grand cross among Cancer Mars, Capricorn Pluto, Aries Moon and Libra Sun.
I’m familiar with this dynamic cardinal pattern which I also have in my birth chart. In this wild aspect, squares and oppositions compete for one’s time, effort, awareness, and energies at every corner. In a nutshell, you must choose what to focus on or you’ll get taken out by trying to do it all.
Reflecting on my own experience, it reminds me of a quote I just read: “If you don’t make time for your health, you’ll make time for it in sickness.” That’s what I’ve chosen to focus on now. Staying well this flu and holiday season.
Use Your Intuition To Stay Well
“There are thousands of medicines, teas, and ointments, thousands of good and well-intentioned pieces of advice, which might possibly help with one and the same disturbance in our well-being. There’s nothing to be said against that, but if I “listen in” to myself then a single one of these remedies will be sufficient, namely the one that actually helps me. …It is essential for me to have a “feeling” for myself; the opinion of experts is often not enough.”
-Guided by the Moon by Johanna Paungger and Thomas Poppe
Honestly, there is as much advice about how to prevent illness as there are diseases. How do you sort through what actually works for your particular constitution without an exhaustive amount of trial and error? In my experience, the question (and answer) must be approached intuitively.
As I was casually exploring the question ‘how can I stay out of the path of John’s flu?’, thinking I’d make an appointment with my naturopath, I ‘heard’ the question differently: ‘Exactly. How would you answer this?’
This happens to me sometimes (does it for you?): I’ll start pondering a question, and the ‘voice I hear’ is a bit different from a typical thought. If I’m paying attention, I can recognize my intuition is guiding me.
I was. So, I sat down, grounded, rooted, centered and asked the question anew. Here’s what arose: I remembered a conversation I had with a neighbor a few days ago who told me she was masking around her sick husband. An image also arose of being outdoors, out in the sun, taking care of my yard and its plants. Then, I ‘heard’: ‘…in addition to what you’re already doing.’
All of this caused me to reflect on a series of dreams about inner listening. In one, I had been on a bus that was re-routed to a health food store, which I actually enjoyed discovering, though it delayed me. Then, on the next bus I missed my stop because I was distracted by those around me. On both trips, it would take longer to reach my destination. When I awoke, I immediately knew this dream was premonitory, or ‘future-seeing’. I knew to listen closely to myself that day, be more self-focused so as not to get distracted by those around me. I also knew that I could enjoy any delays surrounding health by attending to new discoveries around how to nourish and care for myself.
As a result of this process, here’s my intuitive prescription:
Keep doing the things I’m already doing and know how to do.
Mask around John (immediately I felt the rightness of this, as I felt newly vulnerable every time he coughed around me).
Be sure and get outside. I’m sitting outside right now.
Be less others’ focused and more self-focused. How Aries Moon of me!
The phrase ‘self-absorbed’ actually came up for me today. As I watched Bean, the cat, being utterly absorbed in her own experience, I casually reframed ‘self-absorption’ -typically seen as a negative, right? - into something delightful. I began connecting it to self-protection, too. What creates immunity if not an ability to protect yourself through well-nurtured self-absorption? Being absorbed in what you want, need, love (and say ‘No’ to what you don’t) is self-nurturing, self-caring, and offers protective vitality.
In my energy practice, I then received a beautiful image of myself in a white flowing gown, wind moving right through me, as I was smiling, totally absorbed in the sensory experience of surrendering to blissful sensations.
Full Moon Intuitive Wellness Illuminations
Flowing with the moon’s cycles is a powerful and organic way to harmonize with your own vitality. Maybe you notice that the external energies are higher around full moons? And that there are more emergencies, events, plans happening? Everything is turned up, especially at a fiery full moon.
As a sensitive, I protect my energy around full moons. I don’t typically schedule events on the day of, if I can help it (excluding weddings, milestone events, which match the full moon symbolism of culmination). I orient toward receiving insight, instead, which is exactly what this time spiritually offers us.
While not a good time to begin anything new, it is a fine time to ask for illumination around a question. Try this practice for your full moon, below.
P.S.: A few Aries Moon go-to phrases: ‘Your emergency is not my responsibility’. ‘Just say No.’ ‘No is a complete sentence.’ ‘Nope.’ You can quote me! :-)
Intuitive Practice: Ask A Question, Then Stay In It
A quick intuitive practice is to notice the questions you keep asking yourself. Then, instead of turning to Google or supposed experts, ask yourself the same question from an inwardly-connected place. I’ve done this countless times with grand results; I’ve gotten some surprisingly crazy good answers.
When I don’t receive an immediate knowing, I ‘invite and allow’ the answer to arrive in time (I’ve written about this before; it’s a practice in my intuitive deck). You ask, and ‘stay in the question,’ wait for the Divine to unfold the answer, through synchronicity, checks in the mail, conversations, Divine orchestration, and other forms of magic. It is fun and awesome to play with.
Also, don’t worry: If it doesn’t seem like you get much of anything. Intuition is so subtle you may mistake it for ordinary. Write down whatever you receive.
Begin your practice.
In a safe, comfortable, space where you won’t be disturbed for fifteen minutes.
Sit in a comfortable chair with your back supported, and your bare feet on the floor.
Take a few minutes to arrive into this moment by: softening into your spine and back. Feel your bum resting on the seat of your chair. Feel the bottoms of your feet on the floor.
Breathe normally – keeping your inhale and exhale equal- while also gliding your awareness from the crown of your head, through the back of the spine, seat, legs and feet.
Continue breathing, as your awareness glides from crown, spine, seat, legs to feet.
Set an intention.
You might say something like the following:
‘I invite my inner guidance and connection to show up for me right now.’
‘I am open to receiving insights in the forms of: messages, images, words, memories, emotions and sensations.’
‘I would also like the message to be as clear for me as possible.’
Ask your question.
You typically won’t want to be too specific. To allow the answer to arrive in the form it needs, widen your question, like: ‘How can I best approach x?’ ‘What is the right strategy for me?’ ‘What do I need to know about x?’
Receive your answer.
Be relaxed and open to this. You are already intuitive. Don’t: pressure yourself. Do: be relaxed. Don’t look for fireworks. Do: look for subtlety.
You may:
· ‘see’ a shape, color or picture
· ‘hear’ a song lyric, sentence or word
· ‘see’ a memory
· ‘feel’ physical or emotional sensations
· ‘know’ a thing instantly
You can silently ‘ask’ again if you want greater degrees of clarity, insight.
Record your results.
After spending at least a few minutes doing the above, when you feel complete, write down your findings. Let these marinate for a bit, especially if the meaning’s not immediately obvious. The answers may be literal, or symbolic- which require a little more space and time to understand. Put it down, come back with fresh eyes, and you may ‘see’ something you didn’t.
Stay in the question.
Again , don’t worry if nothing came to you. Record your question in your journal and decide to stay in the question over the coming days. For whatever reason, it may need a bit of time to evolve or you may need it to arrive in another form. Let it unfold in a way that works for you… and it will!
